Birchbox Unboxing - May 2017

The other day, I received my second ever Birchbox! I know it seems like it's been a really short time since I posted about my first box in April (what can I say, ya girl was late to the Birchbox party) but I'm really excited to try out this months products since I was so impressed with last months!

What Is Birchbox?

If you're new to Birchbox and haven't read my post on the April Box, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box containing 5 different products such as, make up, skin care, hair care, beauty tools etc, matched to your beauty profile for you to sample. Usually, they are sample size but sometimes they send you full size products too ranging in price - all of these cost just £12.95 a month (if you have uni days you can get your first month half price) and after 6 months you get upgraded to a Birchbox VIP where you get first pick of the design of the box or a product as well as 15% off anything in the Birchbox shop purely for being a loyal subscriber - it's a win-win really!

This Months Products

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

I'm really, really fussy when it comes to mascaras! Seriously, I'm very set in my ways when it comes to choosing mascara and tend to stick to buying the same ones every time I run out. This fussiness boils down to how small and sensitive my eyes are to products, I find it really difficult to find a mascara with a brush small enough so that my face doesn't end up covered in black streaks as well as the product not irritating my eyes. I tried this product this morning and as a mascara it is brilliant! The formula doesn't irritate my eyes, it applies smoothly making my lashes look volumised and it stays on pretty well. The only issue I've found is that the brush us pretty big but I think this may be down to the fact that it is sample sized, the full sized product may make for easier application (or maybe I'm just really clumsy...)

Marsk Mineral Eye Shadow in Vanilla Frosting

I was really excited when I heard I was getting a full sized product in this months box I was ecstatic! And I got to pick the shade I wanted. The choice of shades was either a metallic gunmetal shade called 'Fifty Shades' and a white highlighted shade called 'Vanilla Frosting'. I'm not a huge fan of a smokey eye look on me because I'm so fair-skinned, I feel it looks pretty odd so I opted for the lighter pigmented shade and I'm so excited to try it! I opened it to do a swatch and it is so sheer feeling and lightweight.

Spectrum Eye Contour Brush

I never buy myself new brushes! For years I've been loyal to my RealTechniques brushes (they probably need replacing but nevermind) so when I found this in my May box I was super excited to try it, especially since I've just bought the TooFaced Sweet Peach palette. I have the same problem with eyeshadow brushes that I do with mascara applicators, my eyes are small so more often than enough the brushes are far too big and I end up with way too much product on my eyes but this one wasn't too bad, it was a little bigger than my usual brush but it didn't apply too much product to my eyelid so I was able to build up to the amount that I wanted.

Kueshi Damaged Hair Mask

If you read my post about the OGX shampoos then you'll know that I've been looking to invest in some products to help the condition of my hair, so when I saw this in amongst the products I was super happy (saving ya girl some money, y'know?) I haven't gotten round to trying this out yet but I will post an update on Twitter when I do!

dr. brandt Pores No More Cleanser

This is the second cleanser I've received in a Birchbox and I have to say it did not disappoint... It's an everyday cleanser where as the last one I received was a twice weekly one. I tend to use this in the morning and it does well to remove any makeup I might have missed the night before and paired with the Simple daily moisturiser and the Benefit Porefessional primer it makes my skin look fab!
