When it gets to the Summer time nothing screams healthy skin like a dewy, sun-kissed face, ammarite? However, hitting that balance between looking dewy and sweaty can be pretty damn difficult, no one wants to walk about looking like you're sweating out of every pore possible, not nice. It's also likely that in order to achieve this perfect summer look you're not going to powder, thus giving you make up free reign to roam around your face, again not nice.
Here is a list of products I've found help my face look glowing and dewy in the summer months (psst it includes a powder - shock horror!) I've also put them in order of how I would recommend applying them to your face - like a step-by-step guide from ya girl!
(Also, forgive me for the amount of times I used the words 'dewy' or 'glowy' in this post!)
Simple 'Kind To Skin' Moisturiser |
1. Moisturiser
During the Summer, moisturiser is your face's best friend. I mean it should be all year round because no one wants dry skin, but during the Summer you can't go wrong with a really good moisturiser. I would recommend using one with and SPF then your face is protected from sun damage - I tend to use Simple or any one of the Lush moisturisers because they're made with natural ingredients and are kind to my problematic skin. Putting a moisturiser under your foundation or BB cream/tinted moisturiser (whatever base product you like to use) helps to protect your skin as well as prime your face and keep your makeup in place.
BECCA Backlight Primer |
2. Highlighting primer or face illuminator
This product is a godsend to have in your makeup back if you're longing for that dewy, glowing skin. If you're someone who doesn't like to wear makeup during the summer but finds that your skin is a little dry or looks a bit matte, this is brilliant. It's like your skin, but better! Giving you a youthful glow which makes you look healthy. Even if you do like to wear some kind of base makeup, be it foundation or a tinted moisturiser, this works wonders worn under those products or even better mixed in. It gives your base product a slight shimmer which makes your skin look polished and healthy. My favorite ones to use are Tanya Burr Cosmetics 'Face Illuminator' or the BECCA 'Backlight Primer.'
NARS Tinted Moisturiser |
3. Low coverage foundation or tinted moisturiser
I know a lot of people get scared at the thought of wearing a low coverage foundation and even more so at the thought of wearing tinted moisturizer - trust me, I've been that person! The idea of wearing something other than full coverage on your face is just as bad as wearing nothing at all, right? Wrong, during the summer there is nothing worse for your face than slapping a full on mask of foundation on, it's going to look extremely matte (unless you use a lot of highlighters) and your skin won't be able to breathe or, as gross as it sounds, sweat! If your skin can't do either of these you're more likely to have breakouts of spots and dry skin and I understand that some people can be afraid of going anywhere without that full mask of foundation, believe me, I used to be one of those people! But making your makeup that little bit sheerer and light will do wonders for your skin and you can always cover up more 'problem' areas with concealer! My fave tinted moisturiser to use is NARS 'Sheer Glow'
TopTip: If you don't fancy splashing out on a new foundation or tinted moisturiser try sheering out the application of your current product by using an overly damp BeautyBlender/Makeup Sponge!
Collection 'Lasting Perfection' Concealer |
4. Light, non-matte concealer
If you're like me and have dark eye circles which are hard to battle, then concealer will be your best friend! However, a lot of concealers which have decent coverage can be pretty mattifying. (Which we really don't want!) so finding a concealer which makes your face look healthy and dewy whilst maintaining a strong coverage pretty darn difficult. Enter, Collection Lasting Perfection concealer... This product is legitimately one of THE best concealers I have ever used, it has the perfect balance between coverage and glow and it is just perfect! (It doesn't break the bank either, SCORE!)
NARS 'Light Reflecting' Transparent Setting Powder |
5. Light reflecting transparent setting powder
I know it seems strange having a powder in a "how to get that glow" post but powdering your face is pretty damn impotant if you want to keep your makeup on for more than just a couple of hours. Using a transparent and light reflecting powder sets your makeup without making your face look matte and because it reflects the light when it hits your face it makes your face look like it's glowing. You get to glow and keep your makeup intact - Win-Win!
Ahhh love your picks, so many pretty products! I'm longing to try more Nars face products, I've heard so many good things :D love your blog, following on GFC! xx
